Charm

Charm is a 10 year old pony who remained lethargic and off her food for 3 weeks after apparently recovering from a virus. The only finding from a thorough examination which included blood tests, a worm egg count, rectal and dental examinations, was a slightly low white blood cell count. Charm refused her hay, would only pick at grass and turned her head away when a bucket of tasty mix was offered. Her acupuncture treatment was based on the points that were sensitive on palpation and took into consideration the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As the needles were removed from the first treatment, Charm whinnied and pawed the ground when her owner went to fetch the bucket of food. That week she ate all her concentrates but would not touch the hay. Following a second treatment a week later, her normal appetite returned.
